CIVILIAN PERSONNEL
43. The civilian establishment at the end of the year was 1,829 with a strength of 1,749. There were 564 civilians in unskilled grades, 290 in General Clerical Service posts and 206 in Police Interpreter posts. Specialist posts included those of Training Officers, Welfare Officers, Director of Music, Force Armourer and Ballistics Officer.
TRAINING FOR CIVILIAN PERSONNEL
44. Three week induction courses were held for new entrants for the Police Interpreter grade and a total of nineteen officers attended. The courses aimed to provide a grounding in Police Interpreter duties and an elementary knowledge of law.
45. Seven Police Interpreters attended a course on Criminal Law given by the Department of Extra Mural Studies of the University of Hong Kong.
46. 25 members of the clerical staff and one member of the unskilled grades attended English Classes organized by the Govern- ment Training Division of the Colonial Secretariat.
HOUSING AND BUILDINGS
47. Senior officers were mainly housed in non-departmental quarters, but there were 37 departmental quarters available for holders of certain posts.
48. There were 493 married junior officers of whom 196 were overseas officers and 297 were local officers. All the overseas officers and 248 of the local officers were housed in departmental quarters.
49. Details regarding departmental accommodation are given in Appendix 7 and details of advanced building projects are given in Appendix 8.
