77. During the year elementary English was taught to recruits at the Police Training School. 122 attended Government evening classes and others attended Government day classes at various levels. Passes were obtained at the respective levels in the Government English examinations as shown below:

OVERSEAS COURSES
78. 18 junior officers attended courses of instruction in the United Kingdom details of which are at Appendix 10.
PROFESSIONAL EXAMINATIONS
79. The Standard I Examination in Police duties and law was held at the Police Training School as required and the Standard II and III Examinations were held in May and November. Younger candidates again did reasonably well but the average mark obtained was not high.
80. Plans for the first Rank & File Examination for promotion to Corporal were completed and the date fixed for 2nd April, 1967. Over three thousand candidates expressed their intention to sit.
THE POLICE TRAINING CONTINGENT INTERNAL SECURITY TRAINING
81. The Police Training Contingent undertakes the training of all ranks up to and including Superintendent in internal security duties. It also provides a reserve of manpower on immediate call for emergency duty at any time, and gives leadership training for junior officers and N.C.O.S.
