51. A Police Interpreter attended a course on Criminal Law given by the Department of Extra Mural studies of the University of Hong Kong, and in the coming year this course will be offered to other Police Inter- preters engaged on duties with the Criminal Investigation Department.
52. 28 members of the Clerical staff attended English classes organized by the Training Unit of the Colonial Secretariat during the year.
HOUSING AND BUILDINGS
53. Senior Officers are mainly housed in non-departmental quarters but there are 40 departmental quarters available to holders of certain duty posts.
54. There are 469 married junior officers, 193 overseas and 276 local. Of these, all overseas and 228 local officers are housed in departmental quarters.
55. Details of new buildings and quarters are given at Appendix 6 and details of new buildings in various stages of planning or construction at the end of the year are listed at Appendix 7.
56. Completed during the year were:
(i) A Police Post on Lamma Island;
(ii) An Operational Base for Marine Police in Aberdeen;
(iii) A new Command Post inside the Hong Kong Government Stadium;
(iv) An extension to Sha Tin Station;
(v) 721 married Rank & File quarters at Kennedy Town.
Good progress was made in the following projects:
(i) A new temporary post at the Chai Wan Resettlement Estate;
(ii) The Rank and File married quarters at Au Tau;
(iii) 48 Inspectorate married quarters at Park Road.
57. 791 Rank and File married quarters were nearing completion at Wong Tai Sin.
58. The projects associated with the expansion of Police Headquarters, Police Training School and Police Training Contingent, have been deferred pending re-examination of the schemes with a view to achieving economies without any loss of efficiency. The Police Post at Hay Ling Chau was closed as from 15th January, 1967. The island will, when necessary, be provided with Police coverage from Cheung Chau.
