CIVILIAN PERSONNEL
The civilian establishment at the end of the year was 1,703 with an actual strength of 1,598. The largest numbers of officers were in the unskilled grades with 562 posts, the General Clerical Service with 288 posts and the Police Interpreter Grade with 191 posts. Specialist posts included Training Officers, the Director of Music, the Force Armourer, the Ballistics Officer and the Welfare Officer.

During the year under review an establishment of 107 civilian posts was transferred to the Colonial Secretariat Transport Branch consequent upon the transfer of certain executive functions concerning the registration and licencing of motor vehicles and the issue of driving licences. TRAINING FOR CIVILIAN PERSONNEL
Nine three-week induction courses were held for new entrants to the Police Interpreter Grade and a total of 72 officers attended. The courses provided a summary of the procedures relating to Police Inter- preter duties, and an elementary knowledge of law.
