104. 24 allegations against members of the public were dealt with. Of these, 18 were investigated by the Anti-Corruption Branch and the remaining 6 cases were dealt with by appropriate departments. 8 mem- bers of the public were convicted for offences arising from allegations of corruption. Two were acquitted; and one other is awaiting Court proceedings.
NARCOTICS BUREAU
105. The Police Force has a vital role in Government's campaign against drug trafficking and addiction. The prevention and detection of offences connected with the unlawful manufacture, distribution and consumption of narcotics within the Colony are the responsibility of the Police who maintain a close liaison with the Preventive Service which is primarily responsible for detecting the illicit importation of narcotics. The police also liaise with the Prisons Department and such other departments as Medical and Health, Social Welfare, Resettlement and the Secretariat for Chinese Affairs.
