83. One Senior officer and seventeen junior officers attended courses of instruction in the United Kingdom (details are at Appendix 10).

THE POLICE TRAINING CONTINGENT-INTERNAL SECURITY TRAINING

84. The Police Training Contingent undertakes the training of all ranks up to and including Assistant Superintendent in internal security duties, provides a reserve of manpower on immediate call for emer- gency duty at any time and provides leadership training for the junior officer and N.C.O.

85. The course consists of:

(a) a two-week cadre course attended by the Company Commander,

Inspectors and N.C.O.'s; and

(b) an eight-week course during which the officers and N.C.O.'s instruct the constables under the guidance of the permanent staff. 86. During the year, ten complete companies, comprising 10 Gazetted officers, 60 Inspectorate officers, 150 N.C.O.'s and 1,020 P.C.'s completed a course of training at the Contingent. At the end of the year one complete company (1 Gazetted officer, 6 Inspectorate officers, 15 N.C.O.'s and 102 P.C.'s) was under training.

87. The present training programme should permit all newly ap- pointed Inspectorate officers to attend a course during their proba- tionary period. There are however a considerable number of more senior Inspectorate officers who have not. Because of the numbers in- volved they will not be able to attend a full course with the Contingent, but an attempt is now being made to give this group of officers some
