Constables during the year and were interviewed and tested; of these 109 were accepted as recruits. 21 who had applied the previous year were also taken on strength. Total enlistments for the year was 130.

65. 69 women recruit constables completed their training and passed out from the Training School and 75 were still undergoing training at the end of the year. There were 16 applications under investigation on 31st March, 1966.

66. The recruiting standards for Police Constables, male and female, are shown at Appendix 9.

Constables (Launch Mechanics)

67. 501 applications for Constable (Launch Mechanic) were received and of these 36 were accepted as recruits. They were under training at the end of the year.

POLICE TRAINING SCHOOL

68. The Hong Kong Police Training School is situated at Wong Chuk Hang near Aberdeen, on the south side of Hong Kong Island about 9 miles from the centre of Victoria.

69. The School is commanded by a Senior Superintendent with a Superintendent as his Deputy. Another Superintendent holds the post of Staff Officer and is responsible for the supervision of all instructors and training in the School. The establishment of the School comprises 8 Senior Inspectors, 38 Inspectors, 45 Non-Commissioned Officers and 17 Constables who are engaged on instruction, recruitment and adminis- tration of the School. A Police Training Officer is attached to the School to advise on methods of training and training techniques and prepara- tion of instructional notes. Five other civilian teachers are also attached to the School, four as English teachers and one as a Civics teacher.

70. Phase II of the rebuilding of the Training School was com- pleted during the year. The Assembly Hall, Gymnasium and Band Building were completed and occupied early in the year, followed later by the Drill Shed. The Rank and File Married Quarters were also completed.

71.

Phase III, which is the final phase, will commence shortly with the building of a new Administration Block, Guard Room and the Staff Officers' Married Quarters.
