WELFARE COMMITTEES
230. Unit Welfare Committee Meetings and Staff Sergeants Welfare Meetings were held each month, matters raised in these were processed by the Force Welfare Officer, and all matters of importance were referred to the Commissioner of Police. Lectures were given to Probationary Inspectors and Advanced Training Courses at the Police Training School in respect of welfare in the Force.
POLICE SCHOOLS
231. With the opening of Tanner Road Primary A.M. School in September, 1964, there are now six Police Primary Schools. The other five are Hollywood Road, Arsenal Street, Canton Road, Cheung Sha Wan Road and Tin Kwong Road, providing primary education for 2,553 police children.
232. Post Primary Education for children of Rank and File continued at Arsenal Street and Cheung Sha Wan Schools. Arsenal Street School has 35 pupils (2 classes) and Cheung Sha Wan School has 130 pupils (4 classes).
233. Twenty-four Police Welfare Scholarships were awarded to the children who obtained top marks in the Police Primary Schools and three Police children were awarded Government Scholarships during this academic year.
234. Two children of members of the Rank and File (one male and one female) are attending the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong respectively. Both are supported by a Police Welfare Grant for University fees. They are both progressing very well in their studies.
235. The 11th Annual Police Primary School Sports Meeting was held at the Police Football Ground, Boundary Street, Kowloon on Fridary 18th December, 1964. About 2,500 pupils attended, 300 of whom were competitors.
236. The Hong Kong, Kowloon and New Territories Scout Troops are now 18, 40 and 30 strong respectively. The Wolf Cub Pack of the Kowloon Troop was inaugurated by the Force Welfare Officer on 23rd August, 1964. During the year all groups have held many hikes, picnics, pioneering and other similar scouting activities.
HEALTH, MEDICAL POSTS AND DENTAL CLINICS
237. The three Medical Posts and Dental Clinics, at Central Police Station, Canton Road Married Quarters and Cheung Sha Wan Married Quarters have proved to be extremely valuable in dealing with minor cases of injury or sickness. Close liaison was maintained between the Medical Officers and the Force Welfare Officer.
