Consequently a further change was made and the full Internal Security course now entails:
(a) a two-week cadre course attended by the Company commander,
Inspectors and N.C.Os.; and
(b) an eight-week course during which the Officers and N.C.Os. instruct
the Constables under the guidance of the permanent staff.
95. The training programme was also changed during the year by stagger- ing the intake of companies under training. This was done so as to ensure that the Contingent always had one company available for duty, an improve- ment over the previous system when for sixteen weeks of each year no company was available.
96. Company commanders' courses were discontinued as it was found that they were not completely satisfactory. A recently appointed Assistant Super- intendent is now posted to P.T.C. to command a company throughout its course, during which time he also receives individual instruction in appropriate subjects.
97. During the year under review eleven complete companies, comprising 11 Gazetted officers, 66 Inspectorate officers, 165 N.C.Os. and 1,122 P.Cs. underwent training at the Contingent.
98. In June 1964 a nine-day annual camp was held for one of the Auxiliary Police Emergency Units and a similar camp was in progress at the end of the year. Emphasis was again placed on platoon riot drill and platoon and company tactics.
Training of Civilian Personnel
99. Owing to the difficulties experienced in recruiting Police Interpreters it was not possible to run training courses for the new entrants.
