216. The platoon establishment of vehicles at the Police Training Contingent has been changed from 1 Heavy General Purpose and 1 Medium General Purpose vehicles to 2 Heavy General Purpose vehicles.

218. After exhaustive tests the range and capacity of the Riot Water Tanker were found insufficient for present day needs in Hong Kong and the vehicle has been transferred to the Fire Services Depart- ment for use as a Foam Tender. New types of Riot Water Tankers are being examined.

219. The helicopters of the Hong Kong Auxiliary Air Force have continued to give valuable assistance to the police in affording aerial reconnaissance. They were also used on a number of occasions of emergency.

220. The Police Driving School at Fanling provided instruction courses for 237 members of the Force on various kinds of vehicles. 232 qualified.

221. Force vehicles were involved in 259 accidents. The cost of repairs resulting from these was $32,892 excluding supervision charges. Force vehicles ran 4,589,452 miles giving an average figure of 17,681 miles per accident.

THE HONG KONG AUXILIARY POLICE FORCE

222. The role of the Auxiliary Police Force is to support the regular Force in times of emergency and on other occasions when demands on the police are abnormal.
