52. Owing to the manner in which the civilian staff are integrated with the Force as a whole it is impossible properly to feature their contribution to the work undertaken by the Force. To mention a small selection of the duties undertaken by the civilian staff, a large establish- ment of clerks undertake the normal clerical work of the Force and in addition have in many cases to act as interpreters for overseas officers. Over 300 Coolies are required to keep the many Police buildings clean. Civilian wireless technicians are responsible for the maintenance and repair of over 400 radio sets. Civilian engineers and stokers man the engine rooms of the Marine Division launches. In fact there are few aspects of Police work which do not require the assistance at some stage or another of civilian officers. Thus this report should be accept- ed as a record of their work as well as that of members of the Police Force itself.
