BOARDING OFFICE
199. This office is staffed by 19 members of the inspectorate. Their duties involve meeting all types of transport arriving in Hong Kong. Teams work at Stonecutters Anchorage, Kowloon Bay Anchorage, Kai Tak Airport, Lo Wu on the land frontier and on the Macau ferry wharves.
200. Until July 1957 immigration service in the harbour ended at 20.00 hours. As there was evidence of some inconvenience to shipping the hours of service at Kowloon Bay were then extended to 23.59 hours. Continuous immigration service was thus made available from 06.00 hours to 23.59 hours daily at Kowloon Bay Anchorage and 06.30 hours to 19.30 hours at Stonecutters Anchorage.
201. During the year a total of 1,153 persons were dealt with for offences under the Immigration Control Ordinance, Cap. 243. One other summons case was also dealt with.
202. The number of individual dealings with the public in immigra- tion matters exceeded 383,600 excluding applications for re-entry permits.
203. A new Immigration Post was opened at Lo Wu in July 1957, to provide better facilities for examination of travel documents and protection from the weather for travellers passing through.
