THE CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION DEPARTMENT
108. The Criminal Investigation Department is under the direction of an Assistant Commissioner of Police. He is assisted by a Senior Superintendent of Police as Deputy Director.

Commercial Crime
109. This section is responsible for the investigation of forgery and counterfeiting offences, commercial and other frauds and for inquiry into breaches of the Merchandise Marks Ordinance. The following is a summary of cases investigated during the year:

Passport Fraud Investigation
110. In May 1957 a new Branch was established, under a Gazetted Officer, to undertake the investigation and prosecution of complicated immigration fraud cases. This Branch since its inception has dealt with ninety one cases, comprising thirty offences of making false statements for the purpose of procuring immigration documents, eight offences of conspiracy, six offences of uttering forged documents and forty seven miscellaneous offences.
Forensic Medical Laboratory
111. The Forensic Medical Laboratory, which is located at Police Headquarters, is staffed by two forensic pathologists, a chemist and four laboratory assistants. During the year under review the forensic pathologists attended 133 scenes of crime which included cases of murder, suspected murder and serious wounding. In addition they
