19. Cholera vaccine-The expected re-appearance of cholera called for the preparation of a large quantity of vaccine in a short time. We were able to supply this and to leave the nucleus of a supply for next summer as well. 465,560 c.e. were prepared.
20. Anti-rabic vaccine--Rabies appeared in the Colony during the summer, there being one human case. Thirty one dog's brains were examined for Negri bodies, these being found in six. Propaganda undertaken by the Health authorities resulted in widespread inoculation after animal bites.
As our strain of virus for vaccine production had been lost or destroyed by the Japanese, we had to re-establish it again. Through the kindness of the Pasteur Institute at Calcutta, we were furnished with rabbit brain containing the Paris strain with an eight or nine day fixation. This worked in classical fashion in sheep passage and we were able soon to produce the large amount required for prophylactic inoculation. The vaccine was, as before, the Semple type phenolized sheep brain vaccine, used in 27% or 4% dilution according to the severity of the case.

(8) Examination of Water and Milk,
Bacteriological Analysis of Water.-Water examinations during the year were much more numerous than usual. due to the greater vigilance of all health agencies. It took some time before the Water Authority was able to assure itself as to the safe working of their plant in general after the years of Japanese neglect. We also carried out many examinations on behalf of the Navy.
One thousand two hundred and eighty-nine samples of water from various sourcea were examined.
