Retirement Schemes
The Company operates two separate non-contributory defined benefit retirement schemes, namely "The Kowloon Motor Bus Company (1933) Limited Monthly Rated Employees Provident Fund Scheme" and "The Kowloon Motor Bus Company (1933) Limited Daily Rated Employees Retirement Fund Scheme" for its monthly and daily-rated employees respectively. In 1995, both schemes were registered under the Occupational Retirement Schemes Ordinance. The most recent actuarial valuations of the two schemes as at 31 December 1994 showed that there were sufficient assets in the two schemes to cover both the solvency and on-going liabilities of the schemes.
The retirement benefits under The Kowloon Motor Bus Company (1933) Limited Daily Rated Employees Retirement Fund Scheme were upgraded on 29 July 1995. Safe driving bonus, good service bonus, performance allowance and certain other allowances are now included in addition to basic wages and general allowances as part of the wage elements in the calculation of the retirement benefits.
Bus Captain of the Year Competition
The annual Bus Captain of the Year Competition aims to highlight the professional skills of our bus captains as well as promoting road safety to commuters. An array of exciting events, such as bus captain driving competitions, bus displays, children's corner, stage performances and a wide variety of game booths were lined up for participants.
This year, from amongst over 6,700 bus captains, 34 were selected to participate in the event. The competitors were selected according to their work performance, driving skills and knowledge of passenger safety and traffic regulations.
Loyal/Safe Driving Awards
During the year, KMB continued its tradition of recognising outstanding driving accomplishments by awarding appropriate honours to its bus captains. In 1995, the following awards were presented:
