to apply for a further 19.6 percent fare
increase to come into effect on 1 April
1994. Again the Government decided to
scale down the level of increase very
substantially. The average fare increase
approved for implementation on 1 April
1994 was 12.9 percent.
In announcing its approval of the 1994
fare increase, the Government
is
acknowledged that it would give the
Company "a significantly lower return
than in previous years". This is naturally
disappointing news for the Company as

Nevertheless, the Company
determined to rise to the challenge that
the situation presents, by intensifying its
efforts towards raising the cost
effectiveness of its operations and by
seeking of new or additional revenue.
The Company will also continue to
strengthen its services within Hong
Kong with the aim of attracting more
customers.
