In 1992, a total of 28 new bus routes were inaugurated. Six of them serve the communities in the new developments, while one was an additional

airport service to Tai Koo Shing. A cross-harbour route was introduced to replace the ferry service to Central. In addition, 14 air-conditioned special

services (comprising ten local and four cross-harbour services) were introduced to provide commuters with a good alternative to crowded MTR compartments during peak hours. Two special morning routes were also operated to cater for the high morning peak demand. Further, four new routes deploying air- conditioned single-deck buses were introduced to serve areas where demand does not warrant the use of high capacity double-deck buses.

Bus Fleet

The bus fleet continued to grow and improve in quality. At the end of 1992, KMB had 3,112 buses,

of which 2,842 were double-deckers and 270 single- deckers. There were 3,052 buses in 1991.

九巴共經營三百四十二條巴士路線, 並逐年擴展其路線網。

一九九二年,共有二十八條新巴士路線投入服 務,其中六條乃為新市鎮之居民提供服務 條則為通往太古城之機場巴士線,另增設一條 過海隧道線以取代往中環之渡輪服務。此外, 有十四條冷氣特別線(包括十條九龍線及四條 過海隧道線)亦已投入服務,在繁忙時間為乘 客於擠迫的地鐵車廂以外提供另一個較佳的選 擇。而早上亦增闢兩條特別線於早晨繁忙時間 行走。另有四條新路線,則選用單層冷氣巴士 行走若干乘客較稀疏地區。

巴士車

年內巴士數目繼續增長,而質素亦不斷改善。 至一九九二年年底,九巴共有三千一百一十二 部巴士,其中二千八百四十二部為雙層巴士 其餘二百七十部為單層巴士,一九九一年則共 有三千零五十二部巴士。
