Revenue And Operating Costs

In the year under review, revenue and operating costs increased by 7.5 percent and 8.3 percent, respectively, as compared with the previous year. The increase in revenue was mainly due to the slight increase in the number of passengers carried and the

introduction of new bus routes.

The increase in operating costs is mainly attributable to rises in salaries and wages, which account for over 60 percent of KMB's operating costs. The high rate of inflation in 1992 and the increased cost of new buses and spare parts both contributed to increased operating costs.

Passengers And Kilometres Travelled

In 1992, a total of 971 million passengers (1991: 968.1 million) rode on the Company's buses, giving a daily average of 2.65 million passengers (1991: 2.65 million). This represents an increase of 0.3 percent in passengers as compared with last year. The actual distance travelled by the Company's buses totalled 234 million kilometres (1991: 203 million kilometres). The increase in distance. travelled is primarily due to the increased number of

buses in the fleet.

New Routes

The route network expanded during the year. The continuing development of new towns, with a shift in the population from traditional urban areas to the newer developments, provides us with opportunities to expand our services. Major new developments are at Ma On Shan, Tin Shui Wai and Tseung Kwan O.

收入及經營成本

本年度,收入及經營成本與上一年度比較,分 別增加百分之七點五及百分之八點三。收入增 加主要因為乘客數目微升及開辦新巴士路線所 致。

經營成本增加主要是由於薪金及工資上升,該 兩項支出佔九巴之總經營成本百分之六十以 上。一九九二年之高通脹率以及新巴士及零件 成本上升均為經營成本增加之原因。

乘客及行車路程

一九九二年,共有九億七千一百萬人次(一九 九一年為九億六千八百一十萬人次)乘搭本公 司之巴士,平均每日有二百六十五萬人次(一 九九一年為二百六十五萬人次)。與去年比 較,乘客數目增加百分之零點三。本公司巴士 之實際行車路程為二億三千四百萬公里(一九 九一年為二億零三百萬公里)。行車路程增加 主要由於本公司之巴士數量增加。

新路線

於本年內巴士之路線網有所擴展。由於新市鎮 不斷發展,人口由傳統之市區遷移入新發展之 地區,使本公司得以拓展其服務。該等主要之 新市鎮為馬鞍山、天水圍及將軍澳。
