In essence, the critical factor with regard to depots is not whether KMB leases or purchases, but whether Government charges KMB the market rate or a nominal sum for the depot land.
Another drawback of entering into short term leases is the difficulty in finding replacement sites on the
termination of the lease. Furthermore,
construction costs of depots on leased land have to be added to the overall
costs of our operation which has to be written off during the term of the lease.
