109. This scheme is planned on approximately 4 acres of a site on a levelled plateau overlooking and adjoining the Kwun Tong Resettle- ment Estate. It provides for the construction of eight 7-storey blocks with central corridor access containing a total of 864 flats to house a total of 5,264 people at a density of about 1,316 persons per acre; fourteen shops with living accommodation and an estate office will be included in the ground floors of two of the blocks. Five of the blocks are linked together by common staircases and ramps, and each flat has a private balcony off the kitchen. One large living-sleeping room is provided, as in other estates, and refuse chutes are incorporated at convenient points.

General Contract

110. The general building contract was awarded to Messrs. Cheong Lee Construction Co. in the sum of $3,739,105.42. Work commenced early in October, 1961 and has made good progress. A sample flat has been constructed as a check on detailing and the general arrangement of the unit, its fittings and finishings. Construction is in reinforced con- crete, using a system of beams and columns alternating with thin crosswalls.

Ancillary Works

111. A site for a circular transformer house has been agreed with the China Light & Power Co., Ltd., and the design of the building has been approved. Pull-in spaces for cars and service vehicles have been planned.

112. A site of about 16 acres, along Castle Peak Road at Tsuen Wan, was reserved for the Authority and various proposals were con- sidered. The site was later reduced to just under 9 acres and a final modified scheme was approved by H.E. the Governor

on 28th November, 1961. This is divided into two phases; provides for 2,894 self-contained flats and 32 shops with living accommodation in four
