Estate Office
99. The permanent estate office was completed in front of Lilac House by Messrs. Wan Hin & Co., Ltd., as a variation on the main building contract for Blocks E, F, G, H & I. The building was com- pleted and opened in time for the visit by H.R.H. Princess Alexandra of Kent, and a commemorative tree was planted by H.R.H. near the entrance to the office.

Accommodation

100. This Estate, now under construction, will contain 7,630 flats with accommodation for about 43,600 people at a nett site density of about 1,900 persons per acre. In addition, there will be a precinct with 45 shops and living accommodation attached, a hawker bazaar, post office, 4 primary schools, 1 secondary school, recreation areas and an estate office. The estimated total cost of the scheme is $50,661,975.00.
Site Formation
101. Work on site formation and levelling which was interrupted by main drainage works and traffic on Hammer Hill Road, was resumed on closure of the diversion of the existing road in February, 1961, and is now completed.
Piling
102. The piling contract for the low blocks (7 storeys) was awarded to the Hong Kong Engineering & Construction Co., Ltd. in the sum of $873,730.00. The first contract for the 8 high blocks was interrupted for a period before Hammer Hill Road was closed, but work is well advanced and should be completed in April, 1962.
General Contracts.
103. The general contract for Phase I (1,546 flats) in the sum of $6,782,826.66 by Messrs. Wan Hin & Co., Ltd. is nearing completion. The contract for Phase II (2,319 flats) in the sum of $9,194,015.43 was awarded to Messrs. Cheong Lee Construction Co. Work started in August, 1961 and is making good progress. Phase III has been awarded to Messrs. Wan Hin & Co., Ltd. in the sum of $8,727,627.07 and work is due to start in April, 1962.
