number of kindergartens are now successfully operating in shop premises allocated for this purpose. (see Figs. 2 and 3).
71. Government reimbursed, by means of a credit in the capital loan account, the cost of the public buildings (Post Office, School, and Clinics) incorporated in the estate, a total of $1,089,545.91, which included accrued interest charges.
72. The inaugural meeting of the Residents' Association was held in the Assembly Hall in April 1959, in the presence of a large gathering, which included the Chairman of the Authority, and the Hon. Secretary for Chinese Affairs. The Association has been fairly active of late, and has sought payment of interest on rent deposits, and reduction of rents, though both requests have been refused. The Authority made a grant towards the cost of providing table tennis and basketball facilities on the East Court: the facilities are open to all tenants, and not just those who are members of the Association, who comprise roughly one third of the tenants.
73. An Anti-litter Campaign was organized by the Association in August 1959 in conjunction with the Colony-wide 'Keep your city clean' campaign. It was very successful, the twin virtues of cleanliness and hygiene being extolled by means of plays, songs, and films. The Authority made a donation towards the expenses.
74. The lease with the Hongkong Electric Co. Ltd., in respect of the two transformer houses, was executed, and also a wayleave agree- ment with Messrs. Rediffusion (Hong Kong) Ltd., which sets out the general conditions under which the system can be installed in the Authority's properties. The wiring of individual flats can only be done with tenants' permission.
75. The concourse still has to be completely laid out in a permanent manner, and discussions continue with Government on this matter.

76. The general contract was completed by Messrs. Wan Hin and Co. in February 1959, at a cost of $5,948,188.28, the maintenance period expiring six months later, Arrangements were then made with Messrs. Fook Lee Construction Co. to undertake routine maintenance, on a schedule of rates.
77. As a result of very severe storms in mid-June, during which over 30 inches of rain fell in four days, an extensive landslide occurred
