(5) On 22nd May, 1957, Mr. Allan Inglish was appointed to act as Director of Public

Works vice Mr. J. Forbes, O.B.E.

(6) On 22nd May, 1957, following enactment of the Housing (Amendment) Ordinance, No. 21 of 1957, Mr. G. T. Rowe, Commissioner for Housing, was appointed an ex-officio member of the Authority, and as its principal executive officer.

(7) The terms of office of Mr. B. C. Field, M.B.E., M.C., E.D. and Mr. F. S. Li expired on 23rd May, 1957, when both were re-appointed by the Governor for a further period of three years.

(8) Mr. B. A. Bernacchi resigned from the Urban Council with effect from 1st April, 1957. He stood for re-election at an extraordinary election held on 12th June, 1957, and was again returned to office.

(9) On 10th March, 1958, Mr. D. W. B. Baron was appointed to act as Director of Social Welfare, vice Mr. K. Keen, Social Welfare Officer, who proceeded on leave perior to retirement.

(10) The term of office of Dr. E. L. Gosano expired on 31st March, 1958, and at his own wish was not renewed, Mr. K. A. Watson being appointed in his place. The terms of of office of Mr. C. Y. Kwan, Mr. Y. K. Kan, and Mr. A. de O. Sales expired on 31st March, 1958, and each was re-appointed for a full term of four years.

CONSTITUTION AND COMPOSITION OF SELECT COMMITTEES

The Composition and terms of reference of the Select Committees of the Authority as at 31st March, 1958, were as follows:

(i) Sites & Buildings Select Committee.

To exercise the functions of the Authority in dealing with:

(a) the selection, planning, and lay-out of sites;

(b) the design, construction, and erection of buildings;

(c) the acceptance of tenders for building work; and

(d) naming of the Authority's estates and buildings.
