cost of the installation at $612,500, which was somewhat more than had been anticipated. Estimated annual maintenance and operating costs were $68,830. Information was later received that Government was prepared to give a supply from the main to the nearby resettlement estates, and as this arrangement conferred distinct advantages on the Authority, especially with regard to maintenance and repairs, it was decided to take advantage of the offer, and abandon plans for a private supply. The cost of the water from the Government supply is not expected to exceed 50c. per 1,000 gallons.

The Water Authority is investigating the question of a mains water supply to the estate in view of the fact that a proportion of the floor levels are as high as +280 A.P.D., whereas the Piper Hill service reservoir from which the supply would come has a top water level of +247 A.P.D. only, and a gravity supply can only be guaranteed to approximately 100 A.P.D.

The stormwater drainage works were completed by the P.W.D. at a cost of $348,866.87, and the sewerage contract was let by the P.W.D. to Messrs. Tak Hing & Co. in the sum of $464,582.00; work on this contract has just started.

SCHOOLS

Confirmation was received from Government that it is intended to purchase from the Authority (by means of a credit in the capital loan account) the two 24-classroom primary schools to be incorporated in the estate (on the ground and first floor of Blocks P, Q & R).

CONDITIONS OF GRANT

The Conditions of Grant of the site were finalized with the P.W.D. The cost of the land is $7.50/sq. ft. (one third of the estimated market value) making a total premium of just over $6,000,000. The cost of engineering works contingent on development is deductable from the market value of the site before assessment of the premium.

SITE AT CLEARWATER BAY ROAD, KOWLOON

(Messrs. Palmer & Turner)

The Authority has decided that its fourth scheme will be the develop- ment of a 21-acre site at Clearwater Bay Road, Kowloon, to the north of Kai Tak airport. This admirable site, almost entirely flat, should not require costly or lengthy site formation. It is adjacent to a main road
