TRANSMISSION OF ORDER

A money order is handed to the purchaser to be sent to the payee, At the same time an advice is sent from the issuing office to the paying office.

PAYMENT

At post offices. Before an order can be paid, it must be signed by the payee as named by the remitter, the payee must give the remitter's name correctly, and prove his own identity. Payment cannot be made unless these conditions are fulfilled.

Through a bank. A crossed order may be paid only through a bank. If the name of a bank is added, payment can be made only through that bank.

PERIOD OF VALIDITY

A money order is valid for 6 months from the end of the month in which it was issued. After this period the order is void, but it may be sent to the Chief Postal Accountant, G.P.O., Hong Kong for renewal subject to a deduction of 80 cents.

ALTERATION OF NAME

An alteration may be made in the name of the payee or sender of a money order. The purchaser should apply, preferably on the form provided for the purpose, obtain- able at any money order office, to the office at which the order was issued.

STOPPAGE OF PAYMENT

To stop payment of an order, application should be made, preferably on the form provided for the purpose, obtainable at any money order office, to the paying office, or, if the order is crossed, to the Chief Postal Accountant, General Post Office, Hong Kong. The fee for this service is 40 cents.

TRANSFER OF PAYMENT

To transfer payment of an order from one office to another, application should be made, preferably on the form provided for the purpose, obtainable at any money order office. The form, with the order, should be sent to the office at which the order is payable. A new order, less the amount of a second poundage, and payable at the place desired, will then be issued in exchange for the old one. If the transfer is necessary following a mistake on the part of the Post Office, the additional poundage will not be charged, or, if charged will be refunded.

REPAYMENT

The amount of a money order less the usual poundage may be refunded to the purchaser, at his request.

Application for repayment, preferably on the form provided for the purpose, obtainable at any money order office, and accompanied by the order or giving a reason for the request, should be sent to the office at which the order is payable, if the order has not been crossed for payment through a bank.

If the order has been crossed for payment through a bank, and was issued in the Colony, the application should be sent to the Chief Postal Accountant.

LIABILITY OF THE POST OFFICE

After a money order has been paid, the Post Office is not liable to meet any further claim in connexion with it.

INQUIRIES

Any application concerning a money order which has been lost or destroyed should be sent, as soon as possible, to the Chief Postal Accountant, G.P.O., Hong Kong.
