Restrictions: Drawings, printed matter, photographs, films, manuscripts, printers blocks, and gramophone records are admitted only by authority of the Soviet Authorities. Exceptionally, however, technical and scientific literature and periodi- cals not intended for sale sent to Soviet trusts, syndicates or government depart- ments, and single copies of books, periodicals and so on sent by publishers, booksellers and other firms to private persons are admitted without permit. Medicines are admitted only if accompanied by a prescription issued by a doctor in the U.S.S.R. and bearing the stamp and seal of a Soviet health centre.

copper.
Restrictions: Books, pictures, maps, music or other printed matter; meat in any form; medicines are admitted only if accompanied by a prescription issued by a doctor in the U.S.S.R. and bearing the stamp and seal of a Soviet health centre; narcotics; plants and parts of plants; worn clothing and footwear must be accompanied by a certificate of disinfection and is subject to customs duty applicable to new articles.
Licences from the Soviet authorities are necessary for all commercial parcels and an invoice must be enclosed in every such parcel. Licences and also necessary for most other articles entering the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.
Gift parcels: Small quantities of certain articles may be imported without a licence up to a specified limits, provided they are intended for the personal use of the addressee. Gift parcels may not contain perishable food, foodstuffs in her- metically sealed or glass containers, spirits, cloth cuttings, thread, photographic apparatus or watches. These parcels may be sent through the agency of firms authorised by the USSR authorities.
Packing: Parcels must be strongly packed in a manner adequate for the length of the journey and for the protection of the contents.
