Address: The address of a parcel intended for delivery through a bank or other intermediary should not contain any reference to the ultimate consignee, but the latter's name and address should be enclosed in the parcel. Invoice: A copy of the relative invoice should be enclosed in the parcel.

Packing: Parcels should be very strongly packed.

Prohibitions: Butane gas lighters and refills; military materials.

Restrictions : Monetary transactions may be conducted only through one of the following banks: any German Foreign Trade Bank, Bank Deutscher Länder, Landeszentralbanken and Berliner Zentralbank. Insured letters and boxes should be forwarded via one or other of these banks. Gift packets are subject to the same conditions as gift sent by parcel post.

Invoice : An invoice, in duplicate, attached to the customs declaration, should accompany parcels containing articles liable to customs duty.

Prohibitions: Military materials.

Restrictions apply to the importation of: Air guns and so on of more than 7 mm. calibre; firearms liable to gun licence; plants, part of plants and seeds. Import licences : Goods sent by post are subject to import regulations. Import licences, however, are not required for certain goods not exceeding DM 100 in value (about H.K.$136). Senders of parcels to Western Germany are advised to ascertain before posting that the correct procedure is being followed by the German importers.

Gift Parcels : Gift parcels are accepted without import licences providing they do not contain any items such as sweetening substances for which special import regulations are in force.

Customs charges will not be raised on gift parcels sent by private persons to private persons providing that

(i) the weight and value of the parcel does not exceed 10 kg or 50 DM; (ii) the contents of the parcel are not intended for industrial or commercial

purposes;

(iii) the parcel contains no tea or coffee or substitutes, essences or extracts of

tea or coffee; liqueurs, tobacco products or cigarette papers.
