work of the Post Office and the students were encouraged to ask ques- tions about all aspects of the Department's activities. Judging by the interest shown by the students and the intelligent questions asked, and also by the subsequent letters received from many of the students, this move towards building up a better understanding of the Depart- ment's work and its problems, was an unqualified success.

STAFF

The permanent establishment of the Post Office at the end of the year was 2,374, of which 1,136 posts were pensionable. At Appendix I staff increases from 1963-64 to 1973-74 are shown. The turnover in respect of the major grades of clerical and uniformed staff during the past seven years is shown at Appendix II.

13. Mr. Li Yun-gun was honoured by Her Majesty the Queen in the 1974 New Year Honours List by being appointed a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.
