Conferences

14. Mr. M. ADDI, Postmaster General, attended the Second Con- ference of Commonwealth Postal Administrations during October 1973, in the Port of Spain, Trinidad.

15. Mr. S. C. GRANGER, Chief Controller (Telecommunications Services), attended the Plenipotentiary Conference of the International Telecommunications Union during September/October 1973, in Torremolinos, Spain.

16. Mr. E. J. SPAIN, Telecommunications Engineer (Television and Broadcasting), attended the International Telecommunications Union Seminar on Planning of Broadcasting Systems during November 1973, in Djakarta.

Staff Consultation

17. The Post Office Staff Forum, established five years ago, has nineteen members representing all ranks of staff up to Superintendent of Posts level. The Staff Forum is the main consultation body in the Department and meets regularly each month.

Staff Training

18. During the year, the Training Centre ran 56 courses which were attended by 544 members of the staff. This means that about 23% of the total staff of the Department attended courses of one kind or another during the year and this is indicative of the importance which is now being given to training in the Post Office. The courses fell into three broad categories-induction training for new entrants to the Service, job knowledge and refresher training for established staff, and supervisory training for first and second line supervisors.

19. Two members of the postal controlling staff attended advanced course of technical studies with the British Post Office.

20. Two members of the telecommunications staff attended tech- nical courses with the Hong Kong Telephone Company.

Temporary Staff

21. To assist in the handling of mails during Christmas pressure period, 27 temporary clerks and 151 casual labourers were engaged.
