Justice of the Peace

9. Mr. M. ADDI, Deputy Postmaster General, was appointed an official Justice of the Peace for the Colony of Hong Kong with effect from 26.2.69.

Senior Staff leaving the Service

10. Mr. A. G. CROOK, O.B.E., former Postmaster General retired on 4.6.68.

Leave

11. Mr. M. ADDI, Deputy Postmaster General, departed on home leave on the 5th October, 1968.

Conference

12. Mr. C. G. FOLWELL, Postmaster General, attended the first Executive Committee meeting of the Asian-Oceanic Postal Union in Bangkok from 4th to 10th December, 1968.

13. Mr. R. V. TALBOT-JONES, Chief Controller Telecommunications Services, attended the First Session of the Telecommunications Sub- Committee of the Economic Commission for Asia and the Far East in Bangkok from 22nd to 29th January, 1969.

Staff Forum

14. A Staff Forum, chaired by the Deputy Postmaster General and composed of eighteen members representing various grades from all sections of the Department, was formed in January, 1969.

15. The function of the Forum is to discuss all problems, suggestions and proposals which concern the work of the Department and of the grades represented by the members. The views expressed by members at the monthly meetings, the first of which was held on 24.1.69, are subsequently considered by the management.

Staff Training

16. The training of University graduates in the higher administrative duties of the Department continued. Arrangements were being made for three of these trainees to receive training in the United Kingdom in the coming (1969-70) financial year. Two more University graduates were selected for trainee posts and are to join the Department early next year.

17. The Post Office Training School held three six-week courses which were attended by a total of 48 clerks.
