Frequency Monitoring and Testing
88. The operating frequencies of transmitters of 133 commercial companies issued with Mobile Radio Station licences were checked. These measurements involved a total of 48 fixed, 170 land and marine mobile and 64 portable equipment.
Government Telephones
89. The Division arranges the installation and removal and main- tains records of all Government Departments' telephones. These numbered 11,157 and comprised direct exchange lines, extensions and private wires connected to the public telephone service together with 997 telephone instruments connected to Private Automatic exchanges at the 31st March, 1968. Ten P.A.B.X. systems were installed during the year and fourteen planned for next year. Acceptance tests of all P.A.B.X.'s are carried out by the Division in co-operation with the Hong Kong Telephone Company and the equipment suppliers.
Technical Assistance to Government Establishments
90. Planning of systems, preparation of specifications and ordering and installation of equipment was undertaken during the year on behalf of ten Departments totalling some thirty projects which included radio distribution, induction loop paging, radio microphones in operating theatres, public address installations, H.F. and V.H.F. radio systems and language laboratories. The specification for and ordering of equip- ment for the Port Operations V.H.F. Radio Telephone Service were completed during the year.
Maintenance
91. Routine maintenance was carried out on a wide variety of electro-medical apparatus and electronic devices for the Medical and Health Department, on V.H.F. and telemetry equipment for the Water- works Office of the Public Works Department, V.H.F. radiotelephony for the Prisons Department and radio, radar and special equipment on the Agriculture and Fisheries research vessels. Maintenance of sound systems and equipment was carried out on installations of the Urban Services Department, Fire Services Department, Social Welfare Depart- ment, Prisons Department and Education Department.
