61. Delivery postmen serving Sham Shui Po districts moved from Sham Shui Po Post Office to more spacious accommodation in the new Cheung Sha Wan Post Office.

62. There is a continuing need for co-operation in the numbering of offices and apartments within tall blocks and for the provision of adequate and well sited letter box units to assist and speed the deliveries.

63. 4 additional vehicles were brought into use during the year to augment inter-office services, box collections and motorised deliveries.

Posting Boxes

64. The number of posting boxes (including private posting boxes, mail chutes and posting boxes in new post offices) totalled 451 at the end of the year. During the year 36 new posting boxes were installed, 22 in Kowloon and New Territories and 14 in Hong Kong.

Private Boxes

65. A total of 14,065 private boxes were available to the public at the end of the year, 12,498 of which rented. Additional boxes provided during the year totalled 1,650.

Temporary Post Offices

66. A temporary post office was set up as in previous years for service to visitors and exhibitors at the 24th Exhibition of Hong Kong Products for the period 6th December, 1966 to 10th January, 1967.

67. Special postal services at the request of the Agents were provided on board the s.s. ‘Caronia' during her stay in Hong Kong waters (27th to 30th March, 1967).

Service Interruption and Mail Losses

68. The riots in Kowloon (7th to 11th April, 1966) caused structural damage to offices situated within the trouble area. Except for Yau Ma Tei which had to be closed for one day to effect emergency repair, all offices functioned as usual without interruption to services.

69. The heavy rain on 12.6.66 and the resultant landslides had the effect of cutting off the Peak areas from the town but only caused minor delays in the New Territories.

70. Use of helicopter service was made on two occasions to convey mails to marooned residents in the Peak district and from 14.6.66 to
