40. A total of 1,376,710 Postal Orders were issued and cashed amounting to $63,298,669.60. This represents an increase as compared with the previous year of 193,226 (16.3%) in the number of orders sold and paid and an increase in cash value of no less than $7,204,743.12.

41. The combined value of postal remittance services totalled $68,929,132.74, an increase of $7,934,459.96 over the figures for the previous year.

42. Commission on these services amounted to $219,618.65, an increase of $21,734.89 over the previous year.

Stamp Vendors

43. A total of 405 Stamp Vendor permits were in force at the end of the year, an increase of 3 in the number of premises licensed to sell postage stamps and air letters.

44. Of the four special issues of stamps made during the year, two were ‘omnibus' issues made under the auspices of the United Nations, one comprising two stamps was issued to mark the Lunar New Year Festival of the year of the Ram, and one single stamp commemorated the completion and introduction to service of the South-east Asia Commonwealth (SEACOM) cable.
