Broadcast Receiving Licences which show a decrease of 1,565 over the number at the corresponding time last year totalled 140,909. A large number of residents are failing to take out or renew broadcast receiving licences during the year. Additional inspectorate staff are being recruited to assist in checking for unlicensed stations and details of prosecutions will be seen in paragraph 68 below. Details of licences in force are shown at Table IV.

International Statistics

69. Annual statistics covering telecommunications services and facilities in Hong Kong were forwarded to Berne for inclusion in international publications.

Interference

70. Cases of interference to telecommunications services, both government and privately owned, performing internal and external functions, were investigated and eliminated wherever possible. Thirty- five cases were due to plastic welding equipment and forty-one to other
