This project is still in its early stages but discussions have been held with the Development Office and a possible layout of the Post Office area agreed with the other departments concerned. It is hoped to proceed with detailed planning in the near future.

76. Offices have been planned for many more areas and it is hoped it will be possible to maintain the present rate of their provision.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS DIVISION

Radio Surveys and Inspections

77. In compliance with the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea and the 1952 Radio Rules, the Radio Surveyors surveyed 249 and inspected 86 Ship Radio Stations and provided the necessary service which permitted local maintenance companies to calibrate the Direction Finding Instruments on 75 vessels.

Certificate of Competency in Radiotelegraphy

78. Part One of the First Class examination was held on one occasion and Part Two on two occasions.

79. In the Second Class examination Part One was held on two occasions and Part Two on two occasions.

81. During the year twelve candidates were examined on behalf of the Director of Marine.

Licences

82. The total number of licences of all kinds in force on 31st March, 1964 was 144,556 of which 142,818 were Broadcast Receiving Licences. This figure shows an increase of 667 over the previous year but it is evident that a very large number of persons are failing to take out or
