37. Two stamps bearing face values of 10c. and $1.30 were issued on 2nd September, 1963 to commemorate the centenary of the International Red Cross. First-day covers were made available on 28th August, a total of 47,000 being sold. The withdrawal date of the stamp was set as at the close of business on 7th December, 1963, but stamps in the $1.30 denomination were sold out before this date.
Private Boxes
38. Revenue from the renting of private boxes and bag services amounted to $424,421.25, an increase of $28,954.50 over the preceding
year.
Business Reply Service
39. During the year forty-one additional licences were issued and fourteen were cancelled bringing the total of licences in use at the end of the year to 150.
Franking Machines
40. Organizations with high postage commitments continued to make use of Postage Franking Machines and an additional 59 machines were licensed during the year which, taking into account the revoking of seven existing licences, brought the total of franking machines in use for postal purposes to 285.
Services to other Departments
41. The value of free facilities afforded to departments of Government during the year was estimated to be $880,000. This is exclusive of the services rendered to various departments by the Telecommunications Division and the work carried out in connexion with official telephones installations throughout Government.
POSTAL SERVICES
42. Levels were maintained in all categories of postal articles handled although an appreciable increase was shown in parcel traffic.
43. The total of letters and packets posted and delivered, exclud- ing parcels, registered and insured items, reached a new peak total of 205,168,800. This figure is not inclusive of an estimated 7,976,045 small packets despatched to China during the year.
