STAFF

THE authorized establishment of the department at the close of the year was 1,090, an increase over the preceding year of 32 posts. There were 453 pensionable posts.

2. The department was once again affected by a large turnover in staff and at no time during the year was the full establishment available. This was most noticeable in the clerical grades, necessitating placing of untrained or partially trained staff at the public counters and elsewhere. 3. Temporary staff was used during the year to handle abnormal postings, particularly the posting of small packets to China.

Senior Staff Movements

4. Mr. A. G. CROOK, Postmaster General, left the Colony for Malaya on 26th June, 1961, to attend the Commonwealth Telephone Cable Network Conference at Kuala Lumpur and resumed duty on 14th July, 1961,

5. Mr. C. G. FOLWELL, Deputy Postmaster General, acted as Postmaster General during the absence of Mr. CROOK.

6. Mr. D. B. L. GREW, Wireless Inspector, returned to the Colony from vacation leave on 12th June, 1961.

7. Mr. J. M. MCNEILL, Senior Wireless Inspector, departed on vacation leave on 6th November, 1961.

8. Mr. D. B. L. GREW, Wireless Inspector, was appointed to act as Senior Wireless Inspector with effect from 6th November, 1961.

Retirement

9. Mr. CHENG Ching-wai, District Postmaster, Mr. S. J. HYDES, Chief Postal Accountant, and Mr. AU-YEUNG Fan, Superintendent of Mails, retired on 31st May, 1961, 23rd October, 1961 and 15th February, 1962 respectively.

Promotion

10. Mr. M. ADDI, Senior Postal Accountant, was promoted to Chief Postal Accountant with effect for 24th August, 1961.
