107. The seven-a-side football competition for the 'Hogarth' Shield was won once again by the Postmen 'A' team from the Head Office. The games, although hard fought, were carried out in a friendly rivalry and were watched by a large number of the staff who gave considerable vocal advice to their respective section teams.
108. The swimming gala organized to compete for the 'Crook' Cup was held at the European Y.M.C.A., Kowloon, and I would like to express my appreciation of the generosity and help of the Secretary of the Y.M.C.A. The Cup was won by the Postmen 'A' team from Head Office.
109. The badminton court was well used throughout the year but no competitions have yet been organized for this sport.
Education
110. Clerical Training Courses and English Classes for the Postmen were continued during the year. They were well attended and continue to prove in the work of the office that they were worth while.
Club House
111. Although the Club has little funds to spare on account of the numerous activities it pursues and the low subscriptions it maintains to enable all to join, it was found necessary to improve ventilation by the provision of windows at each end of the Club House. A new wooden floor was also laid to cover the existing rough cement floor. Much more requires to be done but lack of funds means that other improvements will have to wait for some time. The Committee, however, are to be congratulated on their hard work and the results they have achieved during the year.
CONCLUSION
112. Although I was on leave for the major portion of the period covered by this report, the figures and details presented show that the present activities of the department have continued to expand. The fact that the very considerable work of the department was efficiently handled with one or two senior officers absent on leave throughout the year throws credit on the remaining senior officers but I know that, despite the pressure of work and long hours they often had to perform, they will agree that they could not have covered the increased activities without the co-operation and loyalty of all personnel under their control.
