Regulations for the Maintenance of Good Order and the Protection of Property in Public Buildings, Gardens, and other Places.

[19th August, 1870.]

WHEREAS it is expedient to provide for the maintenance of good order and the preservation of property in public buildings and gardens and other public places, and for the better enjoyment thereof by persons frequenting the same :

Be it therefore enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the advice of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Public Places Regulation

2. Every person who unlawfully and maliciously or wantonly com-

mits any damage, injury, or spoil to or upon any real or personal pro-

perty belonging to the Crown, the damage, injury, or spoil being to an

amount not exceeding twenty-five dollars, and for which no punishment

is now provided by law, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall,

summary conviction thereof before a Magistrate, be liable to a penalty

amount. not exceeding fifty dollars, with or without imprisonment not

exceeding one month, and shall inorcover pay such sum of money not

exceeding twenty-five dollars, by way of compensation for the damage

done, as the Magistrate may direct.

from time to time to repeal, amend, or vary such regulations or any part

thereof: Provided always that no such regulation, or any repeal,

amendment, or variation thereof, shall come into force and effect until

the same has been publish-ed in The Gazette.
