A SLATE'S PUNDAMENT. Late in the fall of the year lately attempted to make his earize several times, was missing was four days before we found him. The logs drove him 19lata! be was caught and brought home He was then fastened down to ineans of forked pisces of wood scooted for the purpose. Thoot for two cats belonging to the house. These ha placal upon the naked shoulders of his victim and dragged them suddenly by their tails downwards. At first they did. not scratch deep enough to satisfy his vengeance, so he ordered me to strike them with a stick, willst he again placed them on the back of the sufferer. I did so, end the enraged animals extended their claws, and tore his back deeply as they were forcibly pulled over it. He was then whipped, and placed in the stocks, where he El was kept three days. On the third morning, as i passed the stocks, I stopped to look at him. His head hung down over the chain which supported his neck. I spoke, but he did not answer. He was dead in the stocks! The overscer seemed Four of the field surprised when I told him, and I fancied he felt some remorse. hands lifted lijm out of the stocks and burled him, and everything went on as asual-Narrative of James Williams.
