SIR,-At the request of His Excellency the Rear Admiral Commanding H. N. M.'s Naval Forces, and Chief of the Marine Department in Netherlands India, I have the honor to hand you enclosed Translation of Notifications, referring to Beacons in the Soerabaya Roads and Riouw Straits.-I have the honor to be, Sir, Your most obedient Servant,

NOTICE TO MARINERS.
The Rear Admiral Commander-in-Chief, and Chief of the Department of Marine in Netherlands India, makes known, that on the Reef of Pakkem, South of Banjoewangi Roads a black Herbert's Beacon has been anchored at 4 feet depth at low tide and in the following bearings:-
Highest Top of Bakoengan Mountains, N. 71o E.
Goenoeng Ikan, S. 3o W.
Goenoeng Sedano, North.
Goenoeng Idjing, N. 35° W.
Fort Utrecht, N. 25° W.
Batavia, 25th January, 1868.
Goenoeng Rao, N. 68° W.

TRANSLATION.
NOTICE TO MARINERS.
Referring to the advertisements of the Rear Admiral, Commander-in-Chief, and Head of the Marine Department in Netherlands India, in the Java Courant, of the 30th April, 4th and 7th May, 1867, Nos. 35, 36, and 37, the Undersigned makes known, that the Beacons of the old passage to the roads of Soerabaya have been taken up and that of the Herbert's Beacons mentioned in above advertisement, the one on the sunken fort alone remains, the Beacon being now painted red instead of white.
