On the 9th at 11.55 a. The barometer is inclined to fall over Formosa and the Philippines. It has risen slightly over the E. coast of China. Yesterday afternoon the typhoon was lying near and to the Eastward of Nagasaki. It appeared to be moving very slowly towards N.E. The Japanese returns for this morning are not yet to hand. Pressure is still high over China to the North of the Upper Yangtze, and relatively low over the N.E. part of the China Sea. Moderate to fresh N. and N.E. winds are expected to prevail in the Formosa Channel and the N. part of the China Sea." Forecast: "N. to N.E. winds, moderate; fair to showery."
On the 10th at 11.50 a.-—— "The barometer has risen slightly to considerably over China and Japan respectively. The typhoon traversed the Sea of Japan moving in a N.E. direction yesterday, passing between Wladivostok and Hakodate in the evening. It appears to have re-gained the Pacific to the North of Hokkaido this morning. Pressure is highest over China to the N. of the Yangtze, and gradients are slight for the most part. A low pressure trough will probably form across the N. part of the China Sea. Moderate to fresh N.E. winds may be expected in the Formosa Channel and the N. part of the China Sea.” Forecast :—“N.E. winds, moderate or fresh; fair.”
On the 11th at 11.55 a.—“ The barometer has risen considerably over N.E. Japan, and a slight rise has taken place also over the China coast, Formosa and the Philippines. Pres- sure is high over N. China and the Sea of Japan, while a low pressure trough is lying over the N. part of the China Sea. Fresh N.E. winds are expected to prevail in the Formosa Channel and the N. part of the China Sea." Forecast:- N.E. winds, moderate; showery."

On the 12th 11.55 a.- "The barometer has risen moderately over Japan and the Loochoos, and fallen slightly on the S. and S.E. coasts of China. Pressure remains high over N. China and the Sea of Japan, and low over the N.E. part of the China Sea. depression may be forming in this area to the S. W. of Formosa. Fresh to strong N.E. winds will probably prevail in the Formosa Channel, and N. winds along the Northern shores of the China Sea." Forecast:---“ N. winds, moderate or fresh; showery."
At 9.30 p.-Orders issued to hoist No. 2 night signal. A depression appears to be developing in the China Sea, probably to the S.E. of Hongkong,
On the 13th at 5.45 a.--Orders issued to hoist the Black Cone point downwards and Drum (indicates a typhoon S.E. of Colony within 300 miles). At 11.00 a.—'
The barometer has risen slightly over Formosa and the S.E. coast of China, and fallen consider- ably in Hongkong. The depression may be a typhoon. It appears to be situated about 125 miles to the S.E. of Hongkong and to be moving towards W.N.W. at present. Pressure remains high over N. China. Strong E. winds are likely to prevail in the Formosa Channel. and cyclonic gales along the Northern shores of the China Sea." Forecast:-“N.E. probably veering to S.E. gale; squally, rainy.”
On the 14th at 6.30 a.-Orders issued to hoist the Black Cone point downwards and Ball (indicates a typhoon S.W. of Colony within 300 miles). At 12.35 p-The typhoon has probably reached the Coast to the S.W. of Macao, after passing near Gap Rock early this morning.
"The barometer is rising quickly in Hongkong, and a slight rise has taken place also, along the China coast to the Northward. Over Japan and the Loochoos pressure has decreased. The highest pressure is still shown over N. China and the Sea of Japan. Moderate N.E. winds are expected to prevail in the Formosa Channel, and cyclonic strong winds and gales over the North part of the China Sea." Forecast:-"S.E. winds, decreas- ing; squally, showery."
At 2.30 p.-Siguals lowered.
On the 15th at 12.45 p." The barometer has risen considerably in the neighbourhood. of Macao, and fallen slightly over Formosa and the Philippines. The typhoon, which has probably filled up considerably, appears to be situated over S.W. China about North of Pakhoi. The Philippine and Formosa observations indicate that pressure is low over the Pacific to the Eastward of the former area. Pressure remains high over N. China. Moderate N.E. winds are indicated in the Formosa Channel, and fresh E. and S.E. winds along the Northern shores of the China Sea." Forecast:-
Forecast: S.E. to E. winds, fresh; squally, showery."
On the 16th at 12.35 p.- The barometer has risen a little in the neighbourhood of Hongkong, and fallen slightly over the Philippines, Formosa and the E. coast of China. The depression over the Pacific is a typhoon. This morning it appears to be situated to the East of North Luzon, and to be moving towards N.W. or W.N.W. The Japanese returns are, however, not yet to hand. The high pressure is probably lying over the N. part of the Sea of Japan. The N.E. winds are expected to freshen in the Formosa Channel, and E. backing to N. winds will probably prevail over the N. part of the China Sea.' Forecast: "E. to N.E. winds, moderate; fair."
