31. The following Returns show that the average time occupied in conveying the Mails from home was less in 1874 than it was in 1873, by both the English and French Packets. The shortest time in which a Mail was delivered in Hongkong from London by British Packet viâ Brindisi was 35 days, and the shortest time in which a Mail was delivered in Hongkong by French Packet viâ Marseilles was 38 days. As regards the Homeward Mails, one Mail sent from Hongkong by French Packet viâ Marseilles was delivered in London in 35 days and two in 36 days, whilst by the British Packets viâ Brindisi, the quickest time occupied was 38 days on three occasions.
