The following notices have been issued during the month :-
On the 1st at 11.55 a. The barometer has fallen slightly in the neighbourhood of Hongkong, and risen a little over N. China and Japan. Pressure is low apparently, over the N. part of the China Sea, and a depression may be developing to the Southward of Hongkong in from 18° to 20° Lat. Pressure is high, and in excess of the normal by between 0.1 and 0.2 inch, over E. Japan. Fresh E. winds are likely to prevail in the Formosa Channel, and fresh to strong N.E. winds along the Northern shores of the China Sea." Forecast"N.E. winds, probably freshening; squally, showery."
At 6.30 p.--Orders issued to hoist the Black Cone point downwards. A depression is situated to the South of Hongkong. It does not appear to be of great intensity.
On the 2nd at 11.50 a." The barometer has fallen moderately in the neighbourhood of Hongkong, and risen slightly over Formosa and the Philippines. The depression to the Southward of Hongkong is probably situated in about 20° Lat. It appears to be moving towards N.W. Pressure is high over the Philippines, about 0.05 inch in excess of the normal in Manila. It is in defect by 09.1 inch in Hongkong. Fresh S. E. winds are likely to part of the prevail in the Formosa Channel, and strong eyelonie winds to gales over the N. China Sea." Forecast:- N.E. to E. winds, strong; squally, showery."
