If the jinrikisha be engaged within the City of Victoria, and be discharged outside the western part of the City of Victoria after 9 p.m., or be discharged to the east of Bay View Police Station on the eastern side of the City of Victoria after 9 p.m., an extra half fare shall be chargeable.

For 2 or 3 drivers the fare is double or treble respectively.

III-In the New Territories.

By arrangement with the proprietors through the Police.

82. The stands for public vehicles are set out in the schedule to these regulations. The Captain Superintendent of Police may make any alteration in such schedule as he may think fit, provided that due notice of such alteration is published in the Gazette.

Motor Vehicles.

83. A motor vehicle shall not exceed seven feet two inches in width between its extreme projecting points.

84. A motor vehicle shall be provided with two independent and efficient brakes in good working order.

85. An applicant for a licence for a motor car shall, if called upon by the Captain Superintendent of Police to do so, declare the weight of the car unladen and the engine number, and he shall produce the maker's description or other satisfactory evidence in support of his declaration.

86. A motor car shall carry in front and rear the number of its licence clearly painted in white figures, 34 inches in height and half an inch in thickness of line, on a black ground. The numbers shall be placed in such a position as the Captain Superin- tendent of Police may direct, so as to be readily distinguishable at all times from front or rear of the vehicle as the case may be. Such numbers shall be supplied by the Police Department at a cost not exceeding $1.00 per plate.

87. A motor bicycle or a motor tricycle shall carry its licence number in rear in a manner similar to that prescribed for a motor car. It shall carry in front a plate with the licence number painted on both sides, in such a manner as to be readily distinguishable at all times from either side of the vehicle.

88. The weight of a heavy motor car, including the weight of water, fuel and load, shall not exceed twelve tons.

89. A European Police Officer may require the driver of a heavy motor car which is laden to drive such motor car or to cause it to be driven or brought to any weighing machine provided for the purpose in order that the weight of the load may be ascertained. The driver of such car shall to the best of his ability afford all reasonable facilities for the purpose of ascertaining the weight of the load.

90. The tyre of each wheel of a heavy motor car shall be not less than 8 inches in width. It shall be smooth, and shall, where the tyre touches the surface of the road or other base whereon the heavy motor car moves or rests, be flat: Provided that the edges of the tyre may be bevelled or rounded to the extent in the case of each edge of not more than half an inch : Provided also that, if the tyre is constructed of separate plates the plates may be separated by parallel spaces which shall be disposed throughout the outer surface of the tyre so that nowhere shall the aggregate extent of the space or spaces in the course of a straight line drawn horizontally across the circumference of the wheel exceed one-eighth part of the width of the tyre. This regulation shall not apply to any tyre which is pneumatic or is made of soft or elastic material approved by the Captain Superintendent of Police.
