Short title.
Amendments of Ordinance No. 21 of 1934, s. 9.
INTITULED
An Ordinance to amend the Births and Deaths Registration
Ordinance, 1934.
BE it enacted by the Governor of Hong Kong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows:-
1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Births and Deaths Registration Amendment Ordinance, 1939.
2. Section 9 of the Births and Deaths Registration Ordin- ance, 1934, is amended-

(i) in sub-section (2) thereof by the repeal of the words without any fee and by the substitution therefor of the words "on payment by the informant of a fee of one dollar". (ii) in sub-section (3) thereof by the insertion after the words Registrar General" of the words
"and then only on payment by the informant of a fee of ten dollars ”.
Objects and Reasons.
1. The object of this Bill is to amend the principal Ordinance, No. 21 of 1934, by imposing a fee for late regis- tration of births of one dollar, where the information is given more than fourteen days and within twelve months after the birth, and of ten dollars where registration is effected, with the consent of the Registrar General, more than twelve months after the birth.
2. Registration during the first fortnight after birth will continue to be free, and free certificates of registration will continue to be issued under sub-sections (1) and (4) of section 9 of the principal Ordinance.
