The following notices have been issued by Mr. F. G. FIGG during the month :- On the 1st at 12.5 p.- "The barometer has fallen rapidly over E. Japan owing to the depression which after crossing the Sea of Japan yesterday, is now moving into the Pacific. Pressure has decreased slightly over the E. Coast of China, Formosa and the Philippines. Another area of low pressure appears to be lying over the Yangtze valley, and there are indications of the existence of a depression in the Pacific to the S.E. or E. of Luzon. Fresh to strong monsoon is indicated in the Formosa Channel and the N. part of the China Sea." Forecast:-" E. winds, moderate; fair."

On the 2nd at 12.10. p.-"The barometer has risen over Japan, except at Hakodate, which appears to be affected by an another depression in the N. part of the Sea of Japan. The low pressure area, which is probably shallow, remains over the S. Philippines and adjacent waters. A high pressure area is spreading over China from the N.W., and the barometer has risen on the coast particularly in the North, where the rise is a rapid one. Very hard monsoon is expected to prevail over the whole of the coast, and over the N. part of the China Sea." Forecast:-"N. winds, strong; squally, becoming cooler."

On the 3rd at 11.55 a. "The barometer has fallen in N.E. Japan owing to the depres- Pressure has decreased sion which is now moving into the Pacific to the N.E. of Hokaido.

The anticyclone is central over the continent to the North of the Yangtze, and a considerable increase of pressure has taken place along the China Coast. N.E. and N. gales will continue to prevail in the Formosa Channel and over the N. part of the China Sea.” winds, fresh or strong; fine."

Forecast: “N.

On the 4th at 12.10 p.- "The barometer has risen over Japan, and fallen over S. China, Formosa and the Loochoos. The depression is still situated to the E. or N.E. of Luzon. It appears to be moving Northwards at present. The high pressure area remains over the continent to the North of the Yangtze. Strong N.E. and N. gales will be met Forecast:-"N. with in the Formosa Channel and over the N. part of the China Sea." winds, fresh or strong; fair."

On the 5th at 11.25 a.- "The barometer has risen slightly over the S. Philippines, and fallen a little over Formosa and Meiaco Sima. The depression appears to be situated to the S.E. of Formosa, and to be moving Northwards. The anticyclone remains central over the continent to the North of the Yangtze. Gradients continue steep over the China Coast, and N. and N.E. gales will prevail along the E. Coast, in the Formosa Channel and the N. part of the China Sea.' Forecast:-"N. winds, fresh ; fair."

On the 6th at 12.25 p.- "The barometer has fallen over N. China, and risen slightly at most of the other stations. The depression, which may be slowly filling up, appears to be almost stationary to the S. or S. E. of Formosa. The high pressure area remains central over the continent to the North of the Yangtze. N. and N.E. gales will continue in the Formosa Channel and the N.E. part of the China Sea." Forecast:-"N. winds, fresh ; fair."

On the 7th at 11.55 a.- "The barometer has fallen slightly on the China Coast, and risen a little in Japan, Pressure continues relatively low in the neighbourhood of N. Luzon, and pressure is high in a band extending over Central China and S. Japan. Gradients are less steep, but strong monsoon will continue to prevail in the Formosa Channel and the N. part of the China Sea." Forecast :-" N. winds, fresh; fair."

On the 8th at 12.15 p.- The barometer has fallen slightly at all stations. Pressure remains low over the Pacific to the E. and N.E. of Luzon. The highest pressure is over Central China. Strong monsoon will continue in the Formosa Channel and the N. part of the China Sea." Forecast:-"N. winds, moderate; cloudy, some light rain."

On the 9th 12.10 p.- "The barometer has risen slightly over N. China; and fallen The moderately over S. Japan, and slightly over the Loochoos, Formosa and Luzon. depression remains over the Pacific to the N E. of Luzon, and a second area of low pres- sure is lying off the S.E. Coast of Japan. Pressure is high over N. China. Strong N. and N.E. winds to gales will prevail in the Formosa Channel and the N. part of the China Sea." Forecast :- "N. winds, fresh; cloudy, some rain.”

On the 10th at 11.50 a.- “The barometer has fallen a little over the Philippines, and risen slightly to moderately over the China Coast, Formosa and Japan. The depression still lies over the Pacific to the N.E. of Luzon. It appears to be almost stationary. Pressure
