remains high over N. China and gradients continue rather steep in the South. Strong N. and N.E. winds to gales will continue to prevail in the Formosa Channel and the N. part of the China Sea." Forecast:-"N. winds, moderate; fair."

On the 11th at 11.55 a. -"The barometer has risen rapidly over E. Japan, and fallen slightly to moderately over S. China and the Southern Loochoos. The depression still lies in the Pacific to the N.E of Luzon. It shows a tendency to move Northwards. Areas of high pressure are lying over E. Japan and Central China. Strong N. and N.E. winds to gales will continue to prevail in the Formosa Channel and the N. part of the China Sea." Forecast:"N. winds, fresh; fine."

On the 12th at 11.45 a.- The barometer has fallen rapidly over Meiaco Sima and the Loochoos, and risen slightly in the Philippines. The typhoon is now situated to the South of the Loochoos. It appears to be moving slowly Northwards at present. The high pres- sure area remains over E. Japan. Hard gales from N.E. and N. will prevail over the Eastern Sea and the N. part of the Formosa Channel. Strong monsoon is indicated over the China Sea." Forecast:-"N. winds, fresh; fine."

On the 13th at 11.40 a.- The barometer has fallen rapidly over the Loochoos, the typhoon now being situated near Naha. It appears to be recurving to the N.N.E., and is already causing heavy weather in S.W. Japan where pressure is giving way quickly. The barometer is now rising over S. China, Formosa and the Philippines. Pressure remains high over N. China and the North of the Sea of Japan. Very bad weather will continue to pre- vail over the Eastern Sea, and strong monsoon may be expected in the Formosa Channel and the China Sea." Forecast :-"N. winds, moderate; fine."

On the 14th at 11.55 a. "The barometer has risen considerably over the Loochoos, moderately over Japan and Formosa. It has fallen slightly over N. China. The typhoon is still to the E. of Naha (Loochoos). It appears to be moving away to the E.N.E. and may be filling up at the same time. The area of high pressure remains over the N. the Sea of Japan. N. and N.E. gales will continue over the Eastern Sea, and strong mon- part of soon will prevail in the Formosa Channel and the China Sea." Forecast:-"N. winds, moderate; fine.'

On the 15th at 11.50 a.- "The barometer has risen over the Loochoos, and fallen over N. Formosa and Meiaco Sima. The typhoon is gradually filling up to the South of Naha (Loochoos). It has moved slowly to the Westward since yesterday. Pressure has given way slightly over China and Japan. It is still high over the North of the Sea of Japan. N. and N.E. gales will continue to prevail over the Eastern Sea, and fresh monsoon is in- dicated in the Formosa Channel and the N. part of the China Sea." Forecast:-“ N. winds, moderate; fine."

On the 16th at 11.55 a.- 46

The barometer has fallen rapidly over Japan, and risen slightly to moderately elsewhere. The typhoon exists still as an ordinary depression to the East of the Loochoos. Owing to the disappearance of the high pressure recently covering E. Japan, it will probably now move away to the N.E. A second depression is moving into the Pacific to the N.E. of Japan. Pressure is again high over N. China. Fresh to strong monsoon may be expected over the Formosa Channel and the China Sea." Forecast :—“ N. winds, moderate; fair."

On the 17th at 11.55 a.- 66

The barometer has risen generally, except over the S. Philip- pines. The depression is slowly moving away over the Pacific to the E. of the Loochoos. A high pressure area is central over the continent to the North of the Yangtze. The gradient is still somewhat steep over the Eastern Sea where strong N. winds will prevail. Fresh monsoon is indicated in the Formosa Channel and the N. part of the China Sea." Forecast:-"N. winds, moderate; fair."
