SOUTH AUSTRALIA.
No. 7 of 1917.
Spencer's Gulf.
Approaches to Ports Pirie and Germein, Cockle Spit.
MASTERS of vessels and others are hereby notified that a Beacon is being erected, from which a light will be exhibited on and after the night of July 13th, 1917.
Approximate Position.--The northern side of Cockle Spit, about one cable N.E. of existing beacon, in 18ft. of water at L.W.S.T. Latitude, 33deg. 3min. 20sec. S. Longi- tude, 137deg. 56min. 10sec. E.
Character. The beacon is an open iron piles structure, painted red, surrounded with timber, piling and surmounted with an "A.G.A." single flashing light, flashing 40 times per minute and showing white over an are of 195deg. between the bearing of 277deg. 50min. (N. 87deg. 30min. W. mag.), and 81deg. 50min. (N. 76deg, 30min. E. mag.). The remainder of the light will show red over the spit.
Elevation. 25ft. above high water.
Visibility. In clear weather, White 10 miles, Red 3 miles.
Note. The above light is unwatched.
Port Germein.
Also, on the same date the fixed light at present exhibited from the lighthouse at sea-end of Port Germein Jetty will be replaced by an "A.G.A," single flashing light, flashing 15 times per minute. The sectors remain unaltered, and are as follows:--White over an are of Sdeg. between the bearings of 355deg. (N. 10deg. 20min., W. mag.), and 3deg. (N. 2deg. 20min., W. mag.). Red over an are of 70deg. between the bearings of 3deg. (N. 2deg. 20min., W. mag.), and 73deg. (N. 67deg. 40min., E. mag.), then white over an are of 12deg. between the bearings of 73deg. (N. 67deg. 40min. E. mag.), and 85deg. (N. 79deg. 40min., E. mag.).
Approximate Position.--Latitude 33deg. 2min. S. Longitude 138deg. E. Elevation,-28ft. above H.W.
Visibility. In clear weather, White 10 miles, Red 3 miles.
