On the 11th at 11.30 a.-"The barometer has risen considerably over S. China and E. Japan. The recent typhoon is shown, this morning, as a feeble depression near the mouth of the Yangtze. Pressure is high to the N.W. of China, and also over E. Japan, the normal being exceeded by 0.2 inch and upwards over the latter area. It is still in defect, about 0.1 inch, on the China Coast between Hongkong and Shanghai. Probably a low pressure trough will form over the N. part of the ChiLa Sea." Forecast:-- N.Ë. winds, moderate; fine."

On the 12th at 11.35 a.- "The barometer has risen over Formosa, and the S. E. and E. Coasts of China, and is little changed elsewhere. A circular depression appears to have formed, or to be forming in the low pressure trough to the Southward of Hongkong, probably in from 18° to 20° Lat. Pressure remains high over E. Japan and also to the N.W. of China. The most important departures from the normal are shown, over E. Japan where pressure is from 0.2 to 0.3 iuch in excess, and in the neighbourhood of Hongkong where it is in defect about 0.1 inch." Forecast: N.E. winds, fresh to strong; squally, showery."

On the 13th at 11.45 a." The barometer has risen slightly in the neighbourhood of Hongkong, and fallen moderately over Central Japan and Formosa. The depression in the China Sea appears to have moved Westwards. A new depression is shown over S. Formosa this morning, and another one in Central Japan. They appear to be shallow. Pressure is high over N. China, and also over N.E. Japan, the normal being exceeded by 0.3 inch over the latter area.

Over Central Japan and Formosa it is in defect about 0.1 inch. Unsettled and squally weather will continue over the N. part of the China Sea and in the Formosa Chaniel." Forecast :--" E. to N.E. winds, fresh or strong; squally, showery.”

At 5 p.-"The depression near Pescadores appears to be moving towards N.N.W."

On the 14th at 11.40 a. "The barometer has fallen over N. China and N.E. Japan, and risen elsewhere. The depression is still shown in the Formosa Channel, but it has almost filled up. Pressure remains high over N.E. Japan, about 0.2 inch in excess of the normal. Elsewhere departures from the average pressure are small Gradients along the China Coast are mostly slight." Forecast :-"S.E. or variable winds, light; showery,

On the 15th at 11.45 a. "The barometer has fallen considerably over N.E. Japan, and risen slightly over S. China. Pressure is almost uniform, and departures from the normal small in amount. It is highest over N. China in the West, and over the Pacific to the S.E. of Japan in the East. It is slightly lower over the N. part of the Sea of Japan, and in the neighbourhood of S Formosa, than elsewhere. Gradients are slight generally." Forecast: "E or variable winds, light; showery."

On the 16th at 11 25 a. "The barometer has fallen over China and Japan. A depres- sion is moving Eastwards over N.E. Japan, and possibly a second area of low pressure is situated over N. China. Pressure is highest and in slight excess of the normal over the Pacific in the neighbourhood of the Loochoos. It is in defect by 0.3 inch over N.E. Japan, and by about 0.1 inch over the E. Coast of China." Forecast :- "W. winds, light or mode- rate; fine."

On the 17th at 11.35 a. The barometer is rising over N. China and Japan, and falling slowly over the Philippines. The depression over N. E. Japan, is moving into the Pacific. Pressure is relatively high in the neighbourhood of the Loochoos, and over Central China. Except over E. Japan, where pressure is from 0.2 to 0.4 inch in defect, departures from the normal are small in amount.' Forecast" Variable winds, moderate; probably

some thunder showers.”

On the 18th at 8.0 a.--Orders issued to hoist the Black Drum and at 8.40 a, to fire the typhoon gun. "The centre of a small typhoon, probably formed last night to the East of Hongkong, passed quickly over the Colony between 8.30 am. and li a.m. It gave no indication of its existence until close to the Colony." Forecast:-"S.E. winds, decreasing; showery." At 12 10 p.m.---Signal lowered.

On the 19th at 1.0 pm. The barometer has risen over Japan, and in Hongkong, and fallen over Formosa and Luzon.

A typhoon has crossed Luzon and entered the China Sea. It appears to be situated at present to the N.W. of the island, and to be moving towards W.N.W. An area of high pressure lies over N. China and the Sea of Japan. Over the N. part of the China Sea, freshening N. and N. E. winds are indicated." Forecast: “N.E. winds, moderate; fair.” At 5.55 p.m.-Orders to hoist the Red Cone point down- wards and Drum (typhoon S.E. of olony distant more than 300 miles). The Black signal having been damaged on the 18th, was not available.
